Hints for Teachers
Hi, I'm Lois Schriemer, Peter's Mom. After teaching in high school and preschool, I began teaching my own children at home 14 years ago. We've had many adventures, lots of fun, and we have all learned, and continue to learn, a lot. I will be sharing some ideas in this corner of the web site, which I hope will inspire you and help you in your adventure with children. If you plan to explore nature with children this summer, it's time to get prepared! Choose a place to keep your equipment that children can easily reach, like a low shelf in the garage. A magnifying glass, butterfly net, small plastic containers and field guides are the basics. At a local pet store you can find great, clear containers with handles on the lids. If you want to get fancy, you can purchase bug containers with magnifying lids or call l-800-LIVEBUG to get a catalog from INSECT LORE - they have wonderful resources for exploring nature with children. They even have live butterfly larvae that children can watch develop into Painted Lady butterflies - cool!
